Other treatments you may receive during your acupuncture session: Gua Sha, Moxibustion
Gua Sha
Gua Sha is an ancient Chinese medicinal treatment dating back thousands of years. More recently, it is also used for beauty treatments. A smooth grooved jade instrument is used to tone skin, break up stagnant tissue, and improve circulation. Over the body, muscle adhesions tension are commonly addressed by Gua Sha treatments, as well as systemic ailments such as heatstroke.
The powerful effect of Gua Sha is the ability to open muscle tension better than many other treatment modalities can. The knotted, tense, overworked tissue that has become blocked and unable to heal is opened, and once again there is mobility of the muscles and joints.
This can prevent the need for surgery which cuts into the body damaging precious nerves and circulation.
*Please note: Firm pressure on the body creates darker bruising. Bruising disappears in 1.5 weeks.
Moxa
Moxibustion is the oldest Chinese medicinal treatment, older than treatments using acupuncture needles.
The herb Mugwort, in Chinese called Ay Ye, is burned over specific areas or points to warm coldness and stimulate circulation in the body, promoting proper function.
Moxa helps heal conditions such as:
cold hands and feet (or another particular area), digestive issues, breech baby in pregnant mother, feeling cold throughout the body, heavy/weak pain, general pain, insomnia, sinus pressure, leg cramps, knee pain, menstrual cramps, bruising, fatigue, as well as increasing immune function.
The treatment has an extra benefit of improving skin texture.
